Billy Koumetio is signed by Blackburn Rovers on a loan from Liverpool.

The 21-year-old started his junior career with Lyon, a French team, and then joined Liverpool’s academy in November 2018.

In December 2020, Koumettio made his Liverpool debut against FC Midtjylland in a Champions League match. The next season, in 2021–2022, he made his second appearance in the EFL Cup.

Koumetio played for Austria Vienna on loan during the previous season and then spent the first half of this one with USL Dunkerque in Ligue 2.

After being brought back from his loan stint in France, Koumetio has officially completed his season-long temporary transfer to Blackburn.

“With Hayden Carter’s injury, we wanted to ensure that we could add pace and physicality to the team, and Billy brings both of those attributes to us,” said Rovers Director of Football Gregg Broughton on the team’s website.

“This is his third senior loan spell, so this isn’t a player who’s just coming out of Under-21s football, and I think the fans will be really, really excited to see him play.”

Together with Koumetio, Jon Dahl Tomasson’s team added two additional players on deadline day: Duncan McGuire from Orlando City and John Fleck from Sheffield United.

On Saturday, Blackburn, who are now ranked eighteenth, will play a home game against Queens Park Rangers at Ewood Park.
