Goalkeeper Joe Gauci, an Australian international, joins Aston Villa.

Joe Gauci, an Australian custodian, has completed his permanent move from Adelaide United to Aston Villa.

For an unknown sum, the 23-year-old has bolstered Unai Emery’s roster. He is said to have signed a four-and-a-half-year deal that runs until the conclusion of the 2027–2028 season.

Gauci joins Emiliano Martinez, the starting custodian, and backup Robin Olsen at Villa, where a spot became available due to Filip Marschall’s loan to MK Dons.

After spells with Adelaide United, Melbourne City, and the Central Coast Mariners in the A-League, where he kept 17 clean sheets in 76 appearances, Gauci comes to the West Midlands.

The’6’4″ shot stopper has been called up to the Australia national team’s roster for the Asian Cup, although he hasn’t played a minute of the competition. He has only made two appearances for the club.

After Australia’s tournament run ends, Gauci—assuming he gets a work permit—will be included in Emery’s team. The Socceroos play South Korea in the quarterfinals on Friday.
